Toss your teddy at Bracknell Bees game

November 12, 2009

The fur will be flying at an ice hockey match later this month as the Bracknell Bees does its bit to help foster children.

The Bracknell Bees ice hockey team has organised a ‘teddy toss’ at the home game against Slough Jets on Sunday, November 22.

Spectators are invited to bring cuddly toys to the game at the Hive in John Nike Way and then throw them on to the rink when the first goal is scored.

The toys will then be donated to the Bracknell Forest Family Placement Team to give to foster children.

Bees’ owner Katie Eleftheriou said: “They do teddy tosses in the National Hockey League (NHL) and we got the idea from there.

“A lot of our fans are NHL fans so we looked at it and thought it might be something they could get involved in.”

In the NHL teddy tosses are popular and often result on hundreds of bears being thrown on to the rink.

In Calgary in Canada numbers regularly top 22,000!

The Bees tried a similar initiative last year to raise money for a breast cancer charity by having a bra toss where teddies were replaced with bras.

Katie said: “We asked people to throw their bras on to the rink when the Bees scored but the Bees didn’t score in that game!”

For this event fans will be invited to throw their teddies on to the rink as soon as the first goal goes in – regardless of who scores it.

For tickets to the game visit the website www.bracknell-bees.org.uk or call (01344) 789000.
