McDermott: McAnuff transfer request is "completely untrue"
By Jonny FordhamJuly 26, 2010
Brian McDermott has rubbished reports that star winger Jobi McAnuff has handed in a transfer request and is pushing for a move to Championship rivals QPR.
Speculation surrounding McAnuff’s future has been building of late, even though the player himself has publicly declared that he is happy at Madejski Stadium.
Responding to the transfer request rumour, McDermott said: “That’s not true. It’s completely untrue.”
Reports have also claimed that Reading turned down a bid from Neil Warnock’s side of £1.5million for the 28-year-old, but again McDermott rejected that earlier this month.
Since leaving Watford for £500,000 last summer, following former manager Brendan Rodgers to Berkshire, McAnuff has been an integral part of Reading’s success.
He is also an important part of the squad off the pitch and is an influential character in the dressing room.
And McAnuff’s room-mate at Reading, Matt Mills, has told the club to do all they can to keep hold of him.
“Jobi is massive for us,” declared the 24-year-old centre-back.
“A lot of our play comes through him and he’s a top player. Top players gain interest from other clubs and I’m sure he’s had it all through his career.
“He knows how to deal with it, but obviously if there is a situation then the club have to do all they can to keep him happy.”

He's a key part of the formation we play and can switch with Kebe from left to right.
Hopefully they'll do all they can to keep hold of him.

But as said if he wants to go then let him, better to have a player 100% committed than one who is not.

What if the new job has less chance of a promotion, job security at your current job is greater and management isn't shuffled every other month?
Think I'd rather stay in the job where there's a bit more certainty thanks

There's no point in keeping a player who wants to go ( not saying he does) eg S Hunt, Shorey Would rather take the money than have a player lose his value through uninspired performances
