Pet owners warned after two dogs die at Heathlake in Crowthorne

Pet owners have been warned to keep their dogs on their leads at Heathlake in Crowthorne after two animals died after visiting.

Wokingham Borough Council, which manages the lake, says an investigation is going on into what caused the deaths.

Thames Valley Police are also involved.

Neil Carr, head of neighbourhoods, said: “We have been made aware by Thames Valley Police and local veterinary practices that two dogs have died following a visit to Heathlake Local Nature Reserve, Crowthorne.

“Wokingham Borough Council has never put down poison of any kind at Heathlake and is continuing to work with the police and local veterinary practices to find out the cause of these incidents.

“The countryside service has been inspecting the site and will also be putting up posters today advising customers who use the site to keep all dogs on leads for the time being.”

Some dog owners have contacted Getbracknell saying it is believed the animals may have eaten rat poison.

I sincerely hope this has not been a deliberate act and hope the dogs did not suffer for long. My heart goes out to the dog owners for the loss of their pets.

If this was a deliberate act I hope those guilty of the heinous crime are found and punished to the full extent of the law.
