Marathon run raises readies for Scout hut roof
April 18, 2012
A serial fundraiser ran the Brighton Marathon on Sunday to raise money for Cancer Research UK.
Colin Doran, 49, chairman of 3rd Sandhurst Scouts, has been training hard and has raised half of his £200 target.
He said: “I’ve never done a full marathon before. One of my sponsored said just think its only like running the Wokingham Half Marathon twice which I thought was good advice.”
The travel manager is already the driving force behind efforts to raise £3,000 to repair the leaking roof of the Scout hut.
The leak, discovered in the new year, wiped out electricity in the purpose built building used for both Scout meetings and storage in Memorial Park, Yorktown Road.
Mr Doran said: “We had to repair the electrics straight away but still need to repair the roof as water is pouring through.”
The Scout group raised £100 from a sponsored walk in March and held an Easter-themed ‘Bunny Bingo’ which raised £200.
