Big Brother host Davina McCall took time out of her day to congratulate the boss of a Bracknell firework firm for an unprecedented achievement.
Bullbrook-based firework company Star Fireworks has just won its second major trophy in 10 days.
On Saturday, August 21, Star Fireworks, who provide displays for TV’s Big Brother, won first place at the Pyromusical Firework Championship at Belvoir Castle.
The victory came just days after the company, formerly known as Bracknell Fireworks, won the British Fireworks Championships in Plymouth, as reported last week in The Standard.
No other company has achieved back-to-back victories in the two competitions before.
Andy Hubble, 37, general manager of Star Fireworks, said: “This is turning out to be an incredible year for our company.
“To win the British Fireworks Championships is everyone’s dream in the display industry, but to then go on, less than a fortnight later, and produce the top pyromusical display is unheard of.
“We’re all absolutely delighted and you can bet there’ll be some Champagne corks flying as soon as our very busy summer display season comes to an end.”
Part of that busy summer season has included supplying the fireworks for the finale of TV series Big Brother for many years.
Last Tuesday, the company set off the pyrotechnics as the winner of this year’s series was announced.
While Andy was setting up, he said presenter Davina McCall came up to him and congratulated him on the victory.
“She knew all about it and she complimented us on winning,” Andy told The Standard on Tuesday from outside the Big Brother house where he was setting up for the evening’s show. “It was really nice of her to say something.”
He added: “We’ve got some really nice pyros for the show tonight.”
The company has been based in a shop in Bullbrook Row for almost 40 years.
It has produced displays for local events like the Christmas lights switch on in Bracknell town centre and The Oracle Christmas Spectacular in Reading as well as working with famous names like Christina Aguilera, The Red Hot Chili Peppers and even TV X Factor stars Jedward.
