Pistonheads revved up over super car attraction

By Hugh Fort
July 30, 2010

Motor-maniacs from around the country zoomed along to the Bracknell HQ of one of the world’s most famous car companies to see a range of rare super-fast cars – including a McLaren F1.

More than 400 members of the motor enthusiasts group the Pistonheads turned up at BMW’s offices in Doncastle Road on Sunday to look at motors, including a BMW E46 M3-Powered E30, an E30-powered Lotus Sevenesque kit car and an Opel Speedster.

The star attraction was the Formula 1 McLaren racing car which had been driven in F1 races by Ralf Schumacher.

One member turned up in a limited edition V10 BMW M6 accompanied by his newborn daughter strapped in the back seat and another driver arrived in a Ferrari F430.

Staff at BMW were also on hand to dish up bacon sandwiches to the hungry petrolheads.

Users of the group’s forum were very impressed by the event, praising the cars, organisation and even the toilets.

User DarrenO’D said: “Thanks to the guys at Pistonheads and BMW for an enjoyable Sunday morning.

“Kudos to the guys who bought the F1 out to play.”

Another user, Bahnstormer, added: “Thanks to BMW for putting us up.

“Great bacon butties, some even better cars…”

User muckyman also added: “[The toilets were] dodgy looking portacabins from the outside, but surprisingly plush on the inside. I was pleasantly surprised.”

Brad - that overhead photo only shows part of one of the car parks. The line of Minis and BMWs on the right is what BMW themselves put on show (and includes a classic 3.0 CSL and a 2002 Turbo amongst more modern machinery).

With it being at BMW UK, naturally plenty of BMW-owning pistonheads turned up. However, there was plenty of variety there for those not into BMWs, including an Ultima GTR, a Morgan Aeromax, a Morgan Aero 8, at least a couple of Ferraris, a couple of Lotus Esprits, a Maserati GranSport Coupe, Lotus Carlton, Aston Martin DB9, a couple of Nissan GTRs, many Porsches (including GT3 RS, an old Speedster), Lotus Elises and Exiges, TVRs a-plenty, and lots more.

To be fair, that car park looks like it's crammed full with bog-standard mini's and BMW's...only the 1 'supercar' that I can see and a hand full of modified ones! See better at Guildford cruise!

Ah man! I saw people hanging around there but didn't realise what it was! I would have loved to have gone to that!
