Collapsed sewer causes traffic chaos in Crowthorne

By Mike Pyle
July 30, 2010

There are severe traffic problems in Crowthorne because of a collapsed sewer in the High Street.

The sewer has collapsed near the roundabout outside the Prince pub where the High Street joins Dukes Ride and as a result Bracknell Road, High Street and Old Wokingham Road have all been closed.

Diversions are in place but villagers say traffic across the village has been badly affected.

Bernie Dunstone, manager of Woodmancote Day Centre in Pinewood Avenue, said: “It’s horren-dous.

“I managed to get here down the back roads but every which way you come into Crowthorne the traffic is backed up.

“One of my colleagues said a lot of sludge and mud has come up onto the road – we’re keeping all the windows shut just in case!”

First Bus route 194 is being diverted via New Wokingham Road and Waterloo Road

This was probably caused by the increase of HGV's using the High Street in recent years with the building of a second supermarket and the failure of the By-pass to reduce traffic in general.
