Trains delayed after fire

April 03, 2009

Trains through Bracknell were held up last night as firefighters tackled a blaze caused by a steam train.

Sparks flew from the train's engine and set fire to timber at Bracknell train station during the incident last night.

Flames spread to a wooden crossing over the tracks at about 8pm.

Firefighters were delayed when they had to wait for the electric current running through the tracks to be turned off. They spent 45 minutes at the scene.

Three trains from Reading to London Waterloo and two trains going the other way were delayed.

The bridge, known as a “barrow crossing” is not a pedestrian bridge and is largely used by workmen.

Strange how the steam engine could be blamed for this as I believe it had only just left Theale when the fire was first reported... Still why spoil a good story for the sake of checking facts.
