September 10, 2008

Orchids have flourished around the borough so far this year, according to a wildlife group.

Seven types of the flower have been spotted growing wild in 2008 by the Bracknell District Urban Wildlife Group.

In the group’s autumn newsletter John Ward-Smith said: “Pyramidal orchids have had a particularly good year with no less than 16 flowers appeared behind the Old Manor, a record for the site and a relief after last year’s zero score.”

A single bee orchid was reported blooming on a lawn, but theflowers were absent froma usual haunt in Hut Hill, Crowthorne Woods.
