Bracknell star ice-skater gives birth two days after dying

January 12, 2009

A Bracknell ice-skating star has given birth to a healthy baby two days after she died from a brain haemorrhage.

Jayne Soliman was 25 weeks pregnant when she was rushed to hospital on Wednesday after collapsing at her Bracknell home.

The 41-year-old, who worked as a coach at the Bracknell Ice Skating Club, was pronounced brain dead later that evening but doctors decided to keep her alive for two days so her daughter could be delivered.

Young Aya Jayne was born by caesarean section at 2.34pm on Friday, weighing in at just two pounds and one and a half ounces but healthy.

Mrs Soliman was buried at Easthampstead Park Cemetery & Crematorium after a funeral at the Jamia Masjid mosque in Reading on Saturday, a day after her daughter was born.

Her colleagues at the Bracknell Ice-Skating Club have paid tribute to the popular coach and lessons have been cancelled until Wednesday.

The club's website also carried a message of sympathy for her husband Mahmood and Mrs Soliman's family.

A professional ice-skater who competed in international galas, Mrs Soliman went to bed last Wednesday afternoon complaining of a headache.

She later collapsed and was airlifted to John Radcliffe Hospital, where she died at 8pm.

She had suffered a brain haemorrhage, which had been caused by an aggressive tumour that had hit a major blood vessel.

She and Mr Soliman met in Dubai where she was teaching figure skating and the couple settled in Bracknell two years ago when they returned to the UK.
