Pete Doherty - karaoke king

Rocker Pete Doherty just can’t keep away from his favourite town.

The award-winning bad boy was looking healthy and was friendly and polite as he chatted with locals in Polish pub Gospoda in West Reading on its karaoke night.

Doherty, who has been notorious for his wild ways and drug use, belted out 70s’ hit Needles and Pins by Smokie during last Thursday night’s revelry in Oxford Road.

The Babyshambles frontman was in Reading visiting friends and is trying to stay clean to reconcile his relationship with his estranged father.

Pub landlord Lucas Celmer said the 29-year-old put on a great show.

He said: “He came in at around 8.30pm and he was here for about an hour.

“We didn’t really notice who it was for about 20 minutes but he was very chatty and was happy for people to take pictures with him.

“His performance was fantastic, obviously, and he seemed to be really enjoying himself.

“He said he had friends in the Reading area and that he had heard it was a good night.

“Many people have told us that the karaoke is the best Thursday night in town.

“He was sampling some of the Polish beers and also had a Pina Colada and a double gin and tonic and then he left with the two guys he was with, who looked like security or something, and they all drove off in a black Jaguar towards town.”

Former Kate Moss squeeze Doherty is a fan of Oxford Road and has been spotted out and about with Nadine Roddy, a former Theale Green pupil, who has been romantically linked with the poet/rocker in the past.

But Mr Celmer said: “He was not with any girls, he was just having a good time and he liked the Polish décor in the pub.

“He commented on the thatching around the bar and he said he had a really good time and would be back next week, but we shall see.”
