Viral video: World Cup advert
By Joe PickoverMay 21, 2010
Within the next couple of months heroes will be made and men will become immortal by bringing the illusive golden World Cup trophy back to their shores.
Nike have once again capitalised on the situation with a World Cup television advert featuring the likes of Wayne Rooney, Franck Ribery, Didier Drogba and Cristiano Ronaldo and their experiences with glory, fame and failure over the course of the tournament.
The advert also features guest stars such as Homer Simpson and Roger Federer, inevitably expanding appeal to various audiences.
Adverts that are a pleasure to watch only come around once and a while and film maker Alejandro Inarritu, director of films such as Babel and 21 Grams, has worked wonders with notoriously impatient sports stars, but there was one aspect he couldn’t control, squad selection.
It is hard to place blame for the inclusion of out of favour Brazilian, Ronaldinho, who did not make the cut for the Brazilian world cup team, as he has huge global appeal. Lets just say Nike were a little presumptuous.
An enjoyable watch nonetheless.
