Bracknell Ladies 2nd 1 Wycombe 1
Bracknell Ladies 2nd re-started their Trysports Division 2 league season after the Christmas break facing Wycombe in a mid-table clash, a week later than expected due to the previous weekend’s snow.
Bracknell started well and it was not long before the away team cracked under the pressure and conceded a penalty corner.
Bracknell capitalised on this in the form of a reverse stick cross from Suzy Hardingham being neatly deflected into the net at waist height by captain Kelly Lockyer.
As the first half wore on Wycombe managed to find their feet and make some threatening attacks of their own.
Shortly before half time, following a fast-paced break up the pitch, a defensive error gave Wycombe a penalty corner.
Despite the initial shot being saved well by keeper Steph Newton, Bracknell failed to clear the re-bound and Wycombe equalised the scoreline at 1-1.
In the second half Bracknell had a number of chances, but failed to find that finishing touch in the attacking D with a couple of shots going wide and two missed chances with only the keeper to beat.
Wycombe came close on a few occasions, but also failed to find the net.
The man-of-the-match award went to Steph Newton who pulled off some fabulous saves in the second half to keep the scoreline level.
Bracknell Mens 2nd 8 City of Oxford 0
Bracknell’s weather-extended winter break finally ended with an MBBO Open Division 7 home fixture against City of Oxford.
The previous meeting between the two teams was a tight affair, with Bracknell eventually prevailing 2-1, and it seemed like this game would be no different.
Ashley Holden set up Pete Bailey, to promptly open the scoring for Bracknell.
The game remained a close affair, however, and not until Steve Williams powerfully finished off a short corner could Bracknell breathe a little more easily.
From that point Bracknell controlled the game and it was no surprise when Pete Bailey’s second goal soon followed.
With that third goal the floodgates opened as first Steve Williams, Dave Mackinder and then Bailey again (his third hat-trick in as many games), netted in a five-minute flurry at the end of the half.
Unsurprisingly, the second half was far more pedestrian, with two goals from Ashley Holden the only events of note.
Bracknell's good defensive work prevented City from achieving a single shot at goal, rendering the Bracknell 'keeper a virtual spectator.
Bracknell Terriers 2 Staines 0
Bracknell Terriers travelled to Staines for the 4pm start only to find their eleven pitched against a surprisingly strong side in MBBO Division 10 East.
To make the trip Bracknell added fifth teamer Paul Broom to the side and Tony Heaver, who was returning to the game at the age of 40.
Paul Broom scored the first two goals of his hockey playing career having only picked up a stick for the first time last year.
The goals, one in each half, were both down to brilliant team play.
Bracknell moved the ball around smartly and put together a number of slick passing plays.
Most pleasing was Tom Scott exploiting the space in the circle, drawing players onto him and threading the ball to the unmarked Broom standing just off the goal line.
The win was built on a fantastic team effort where shape and defensive commitment saw Staine’s pace and skill thwarted many times.
Bracknell Fuzzy Ducks 4 Woking Mixed 3
Bracknell Fuzzy Ducks were raring to go for their first mixed game of the year, with several of the players not playing since the beginning of December.
This however proved their downfall in the first half of the game when Woking seized the opportunity from the ‘rusty’ ducks to sweep two past the Bracknell keeper Eatwell.
The ducks eventually picked up the pace with Gary Steeple and Lawrence Lewis, pushing up the midfield and supporting the attack.
In the second half Alison Eatwell opened the score for Bracknell and then levelled after some nice short corner play from Sean Hardingham and Matt Humphries and Sam Heaver.
However, Woking were quick on the offence and retaliated with another goal.
Dan Ray’s reply squeaked past the Woking goalie to even the score, only for Gemma Maclean to sweep passed the goalkeeper after some fantastic movement from the midfield play.
Bracknell won 4-3 after a really fast paced game enjoyed by both teams.
