Almost 1,000 take on Quintiles Bracknell Half Marathon
By Mike PyleMay 11, 2009
Hundreds of runners braved the scorching heat to take on the 25th annual Bracknell Half Marathon yesterday.
The 25-degree temperatures were a marked difference from the thunder storms of last year as the race celebreated its silver jubilee.
But it didn’t stop Simon Newton of Askern club near Doncaster winning the men’s event in 1hr 16mins 49secs.
Did you run the half-marathon? How was it for you? Have a say here.
Sarah Gee, running for sponsors Quintiles, won the women’s event.
Licensed Victuallers School teachers Bryce McMurray, Andy Towse and Dom Pike were among scores of runners to chose to take on the gruelling 13.1-mile race to raise cash for charity.
The trio chose to run for Thames Hospice Care.
The race attracted more spectators than last year thanks to the sunny weather and the course was lined with people cheering on the intrepid runners.
