Two in two for Bracknell Blazers II

By Paul Vernon
May 07, 2009

Bracknell Baseball Club’s Blazers II team picked up a convincing victory over Guildford by a scoreline of 28-2 on Sunday.

They now sit top of Pool 1 of the Single A League with a 2-0 record, having beaten both of their pool opponents in their first two games.

Saturday saw the U16 Tornadoes take on Pony League newcomers Horsham in a pre-season double header.

Amy Trask picked up the win in a 9-7 victory after good work on the mound from Connor Vernon.

Bernard Scheuerman started game two on the hill, Aaron Simmons threw two innings to take the win, before Damian Van Niekerk closed the game out to pick up the save in the 8-6 victory.

All of Bracknell’s starters picked up a hit or a run offensively.

Bracknell’s busy weekend, however, began on Friday with the second session of its new teeball programme which welcomed half a dozen new recruits.

At the same time a team of U18 players were travelling to TASIS to face the International School’s varsity team.

A good start saw Reinier Martinez keep the TASIS bats quiet while his team built up a 6-0 lead after two innings.

Some timely, very heavy hitting in the third saw TASIS score nine and they added five more in the fourth to secure a 14-6 win.

Teeball and Bronco League continues for young players on Friday at 6.15pm and Saturday at 10am respectively.

The Tornadoes host Brentwood in the first Conference games of the season at midday on Saturday.

Sunday sees the Blazers, currently the only unbeaten team in the National League, visit current national champions London Mets at Finsbury Park and Blazers II are at home to Herts Raptors at 2pm.
