Huxley earns split double header
May 30, 2008
Bracknell's under-16 Pony baseball team split a double header on Saturday with Burgess Hill.
Burgess Hill won the opener 17-13, although Bracknell’s Adam Huxley led the offense with a double and a triple, while Paul Vernon’s RBI triple and Damian Van Niekerk’s two RBI on two hits were the pick of Pony’s batting stats.
The team bounced back in game two, though, as patient hitting took advantage of 15 walks as Huxley weighed in with a mini-cycle – single, double and triple – and 6 RBI.
Sam Jones smacked an RBI triple and Adam Haywood and Vernon picked up a couple of hits each as Bracknell ran out 16-6 winners.
Blazers II came back from last week’s defeat by taking Southampton to the wire in a great advert for British ‘A’ Ball.
An unfamiliar Bracknell started in fine fashion, notching four runs in the first inning.
However, Southampton took advantage of some mistakes to claw back what had looked a decent margin.
Leo Nogami did well to stem the flow before Blazers started to make inroads. Tracey James had her best game for Blazers as she twice reached third safely only to be thwarted each time and Southampton narrowly won 10-9.
