Queen Bees sting the Vipers

31/ 5/2007

Louise Wells lifts the Women’s Premier League championship trophy after Bracknell Queen Bees stung Newscastle Lady Vipers in the 2-1 play-off final victory on Sunday night.

The Bees narrowly squeezed past Guildford Lightning 3-2 in sudden-death overtime in the semi-final on Saturday.

Claire Fay and Natalie Aldridge both scored before Dani Summers netted the winner. Skipper Wells and Laura Stark both netted in the final 24 hours later against a below-par Newcastle side.

The Bees will aim to take a second piece of silverware when they travel to Coventry to face Solihull Vixens in the final of the EIHA Knockout Cup on Sunday.

And Wells said: “It’s a great feeling to win the play-offs and all the Queen Bees can be very proud of themselves. I hope we can win the Cup as well. For us to take two trophies in the same season would be fantastic.”

Head coach John Hubbell said: “It’s a privilege to coach such a dedicated group of women. The team has a good mix of veterans and young players and led by Louise Wells is in a class by itself in Great Britain, having won five national titles in the last three years.”
