Reading RFC invest in new medical team

August 17, 2012

Reading will be able to call upon the support of a trained medical team this season.

Treatment will be free to members in the minis, colts, five senior sides and ladies team.

Medical team leader Victoria Whitby said: “We’re incredibly lucky to have such an experienced and committed team of physios and sports therapists.

“Catherine Fagg has joined us from Redingensians and Claire Stevens and Stephanie Oldfield have come across from Abbey. Jen Cullom will continue to look after the ladies and Sarah Hale has also come home after running the medical team at Redingensians.

“We started in July with thorough player-screening and are working closely with coaches and management to make sure we get into good habits early on.”

All of the team are trained to Gold Standard in sport trauma management.

Chairman Andy Clark said: “The new medical team will increase recovery time for players and get them back on the pitch quicker.

“This is one of the best financial decisions we have made from our playing budget. The benefits outweigh the cost. I don’t know of any other club locally who offer this to their players.”

Reading begin their pre-season campaign with a game against Monmouthshire club Caldicot at the Berkshire County Sports ground tomorrow (2pm).
