Victory celebrations rule out London Irish star Ansbro

Joe Ansbro has been ruled out of Scotland’s game against Fiji on Saturday by the freak injury he suffered celebrating last week’s win over Australia.

The London Irish player clashed heads with Ally Strokosch as they joined in with their Scotland team-mates in mobbing Greig Laidlaw, after his extra-time penalty secured a famous 9-6 win over the Wallabies.

As the kick went over the Scots went into raptures in the middle of the park, engulfing Laidlaw and diving onto one another.

Unfortunately Ansbro, who was selected on the wing, and Gloucester back-row forward Strokosch joined the group at the same time, cracking their heads open in a sickening collision.

Nothing could stop the smiles, despite each player needing to be patched up, with Ansbro coming off worst, needing 10 stitches to a nasty cut above his left eye.

Strokosch revealed on Twitter that he had ‘apparently split him to the bone’, adding that he got four stitches while Ansbro ‘got loads!’.

He also posted a comical freezeframe of the incident and commented: “We are hard in Scotland – this is how we celebrate.”

The collision - not for the squeamish - can be seen below.
