Cox proud of Bracknell Bees’ positive responseBy Adam Lee

Gareth Cox paid tribute to his bruised and battered players after taking a point from Sunday’s clash with Guildford Flames.
Bees were on the receiving end of an 8-0 thrashing by the EPIHL league leaders away on Saturday night, but in Sunday’s return fixture, matched their illustrious opponents in almost every department.
However, after leading 3-0 with little less than half the game to go, Guildford fought back to take the game to overtime before winning on penalty shots.
And Bees coach Cox admitted he couldn’t have asked for much more from his players.
Bees were without Bradley Watchorn and Scott Spearing on Saturday night, although the pair insisted on playing on Sunday, despite not being fully match fit.
And the club were also resigned to losing Carl Graham until February after a tiny fracture in his leg was discovered.
“I think we deserved more, but after the way we played on Saturday night it was a great bounce back from the guys and they showed a lot of character,” said Cox.
“We were a little bit unlucky, but with the depth they’ve got and the quality players they have, they were always a threat to our lead.
“We had the chances on the PP to close the game which we didn’t take and we’re disappointed by that, but overall, after the game on Saturday, I would have taken a point at the start of the game.
“On Saturday we were shocking. We gave them too much respect.
“Our heads dropped after the third goal and we couldn’t get ourselves back into the game after that.
“We were missing a lot of guys as well, but after that performance everyone wanted to play.
“The boys reacted well and it was exactly what we needed.”
Bees eased some of the pressure on their overworked defencemen by signing former Peterborough Phantoms player Ricky Skene last week.
And Cox was delighted with the way he has slotted into the squad.
He said: “Getting Skene in was key for us.
“He had a great weekend and was thrown in at the deep end after only training once with us.
“He got a lot of key minutes on Sunday night and did well.”
Bees have a lengthy break before their next game, also at home to Guildford, on Tuesday (6pm face-off).
