Bicknell denies assembling ‘goon’ squad

Adam Bicknell has warned that he has no intention of turning Bracknell Bees into a team of undisciplined fighters after signing 6ft 1in British power forward Joe Greener.

Bicknell declared he would be demanding a more physical approach from his side after taking over as player-coach last month.

And 21-year-old Greener, the younger brother of ex-Bees captain Adam, certainly fits the profile.

He has a big physical presence on the ice and was the leading penalty-taker for his previous club Travers City Stars in the North American Hockey League.

And Andrius Kaminskas, a top target for next season, was no stranger to the sinbin with Romford Raiders.

But Bees’ boss warned: “I am not putting together a team of goons. We will certainly not shy away from the rough stuff, but we want to be team strong, not individuals looking for trouble.

“That would be just reckless and will get us into penalty trouble. I want us to stay disciplined and I’m disappointed that some people have misunderstood what I’ve said I’m after from players.”

Bicknell still intends to reunite the Greener brothers, by signing powerful defenceman Adam in December when he completes his two-year ban for failing a doping test.
