Chelsea hit by injuries for tonight's game against Reading FC
January 30, 2013
Chelsea will arrive at Madejski Stadium with a patched-up squad following injuries to key players.
Goalkeeper Petr Cech (calf) and versatile player David Luiz (ankle) are out.
Midfielders John Obi Mikel and Victor Moses are away at the African Cup of Nations.
Eden Hazard is suspended after kicking a ballboy in their Capital One Cup defeat to Swansea City.
But Royals boss Brian McDermott isn’t expecting any surprises from Rafa Benitez’s side tonight. He said: “We keep all of our reports and notes before and after every game.
“We watch videos, have them scouted and there is always something that we try to implement. The most important thing is to be prepared and have a plan. It might not always work, but we have a plan.”
Centre-back and skipper John Terry (pictured right) is back in the Blues starting line-up after shaking off a long-term knee problem and he has rallied his team-mates ahead of their game.
He said: “We need to liven up a bit and realise the importance to the fans and the club.”
And Benitez doesn’t expect to have any new faces through the door for the short trip down the M4. He added: “I don’t think so, but my job is to improve my squad and manage the situation we have.”
