Manchester United first half 'craziest ever'

Sean Morrison described the first half of Reading's 4-3 defeat to Manchester United as one of the craziest 45 minutes of football he's ever played in.

In a seven-goal thriller, six different scorers hit the back of the net inside the opening 34 minutes.

Hal Robson-Kanu's goal opened the scoring, and the floodgates, in the eighth-minute to pave the way for Anderson, Wayne Rooney, Adam Le Fondre, Morrison, Rooney again and then Robin van Persie to strike.

And centre-back Morrison said: "It was a bit mad. The first-half was one of the craziest 45 minutes of football I've ever played in.

"We came off at half-time feeling comfortable as there wasn't much going on. The first goal went in at the front post and the second was a penalty.

"We felt comfortable in our shape and in the second half they sat in their shape making it hard for us to break them down.

"I think we can take away a lot as they're one of the best teams in the world.

"I would exchange that goal for a point or three any day of the week.

"It's nice to be able to say I've scored against Man United. They have some of the best players in the world and you know if they get a chance then they will score."

Reading now must turn their attentions to a huge relegation six-pointer away to Southampton on Saturday.

With three points and a place separating the two sides in the bottom three, Royals desperately need a change of fortunes from their festive fixtures.

"Every weekend is a big one in the Premier League," added Morrison.

"We are in the relegation zone and need to get ourselves out of it. If we can go away and get two results it will be fantastic for us.

"We want to stay in this league and we have to win games and pick up points and that needs to start happening soon.

"I think we're moving in the right direction and it will come if keep going."

Thought Smalling was all over Shorey before Van Persie "scored" so suppose not been given was about right.

...or he's being kept out the team by Roberts who can actually hold the ball up.

Would like to seem them both play TBH but I understand the big man/little man (with pace)routine...so he'll have to make an impact from off the bench untill someone loses form/gets injured....could really do with that impact soon aswell.

Can someone tell me what happened to the prize money we got for winning the Championship, and why we are not spending to build a Premier League team? Jase72, Burchetts Green

It's gone on the Pog's wages.

Every fan is saying it (apart from the blind ones) midfield must be improved. If we only have a little money then that must all go into a pl experieced cm and a quality one too who can pass. Guthrie needs to play now . LEIG is not up to it. Tabb is not much better but at least does not get in the way!

Midfield midfield midfield. 2 accomplished centre midfielders and we would be able to control games when taking the lead

Some interesting points/views, this is how I saw the game:

Feds was at fault for the first goal.

Tabb stupidly gave away a pen.

Hal R-K had a great game going forward but didn't track Evra and he is to blame for the other 2 goals as Evra assited them both.

I think that's the best attacking display we've all seen from Hal but he has to track back!

For me, the back 4 didn't do much wrong. For a change, Ledge & Tabb kept the ball and didn't give it away too much.

Shorey and Jobi destroyed young Rafael, shame Fergie took him off as Smalling was much better.

As for Roberts and Alfie - both did ok but we still need a class striker that is better than them and Pog+Hunt.

It would have been a worthy point but if the midfield tighten up defensively, I think we can beat both Saints and Sunderland :)

RG - the corner incident wasn't shown on MoTD, so work that one out!

I seem to remember RvP asking the ref if the linesman needed glasses ;)

The assistant also couldn't see when the ball went off two united players for a corner that was given as a goal kick. He didn't have the excuse of people in the way for that one!

There was no way the assistant could have seen it was over the line - too many people in his way & therein lies why goal line technology is coming in soon.
