LIVE: Reading FC v Everton

November 17, 2012

Join Royals reporter Jonny Fordham from Madejski Stadium as Reading face Everton.

Reading and Everton have met just eight times in all competitions.

The Toffees boast the advantage, having won five of those, drawing won and losing two.

The last time these two sides met was at Goodison Park in the fourth round of the FA Cup where a Matt Mills goal in the 26th-minute saw Reading win the game 1-0.

One swallow doesn't make a summer. It is a marathon not a sprint and we are not even a third of the way through the season yet. However, all I would like to say is that if the rumours are indeed true about bringing in a new manager and new team in January, it will probably be the worst decision ever made at RFC, IMHO. It would upset the entire infrastructure of the club and would have more chance of failure than success. To the owners I would like to say stick with the present set up (at least for the time being, we do not have enough quality to play pretty football at the moment)- yes, strengthen the squad with two/three quality players but please allow BMcD to select the players he wants and continue in the "Reading" way. BR tried to change the system and it failed miserably. Besides it will save the owners a fortune. I was proud to be a Reading supporter yesterday. What really upset me yesterday was the Everton supporters singing "going down" so it gave me so much extra pleasure to have beaten them.

Well done Brian, very, very pleased for you.

Second half was very good with a couple of exceptions (you reading this Mr Captain?) but the first half was embarassing. Hopefully that 90 minutes will sum up our season - poor at the start but eventually we come good. It's vital now to take points from both Wigan and Villa.

Great committment in the first few minutes of the 2nd half roused the sleepy Mad Stad, gave us all something positive to shout about. The players responded well and Alf was great. Wasn't sure about him being taken off, but Hunty did a great job when he came on. Tabb, and particularly Morrison, were excellent again.

Great game, well great 2nd half. This is what we can do when all the team give 100% and play a full-on in their faces type of game. We came out in for the second half full of conviction and pace just like the old Reading. Well done Brian and the boys. URZ

So how did RFC get the win? Was it a change of formation or a new player? Nope, they responded to a half time talk from the manager.

Well done Brian, glad you've shut up the doom merchants...same ethic/talk next week pls.

The Mad Stad was rocking again in the second half and long may the great atmosphere continue. The first half was bad, but the second half was great to watch. The win has been coming for a while and interesting that our goal difference is only -5, compared to most teams around us being at least -10. Surely this shows that we haven't been thrashed as the doom and gloom 'fans' like to suggest?

Also, many teams play long ball, and Reading do mix it up, so I am not sure why people are getting so up tight about our tactics.

Looking forward to a couple of away games we have a good chance of getting some points in and we can then do a Norwich and beat Man Utd in a couple of weeks!

A great result against the team in 4th position, that was having its amongst its best-ever starts to a season, that will do absolute wonders for team morale and confidence. I'm absolutely delighted for Brian. He saw what was wrong in the first half, had a word at half time, the players responded, and there you go.

It should be noted that our "stellar" acquisitions made during the summer were not involved. Chucking money around like a drunken sailor seldom works. Ask Mark Hughes.

If come on lads thinks the second half was park football, then either you were not at the game at all, or you're an Oxford/Swindon fan on a wind up. Give it a rest.

Excellent win despite a very poor first half. 2nd half much more like it and playing with belief for the first time in ages. Having a reality check, obviously we do need to strengthen in January as we are missing quality in certain areas, but not taking credit away from the lads for a brilliant 2nd half and a great performance to win.......

Jonny, ask Brian what's with the suit when you get the chance. Thought it had been got out for an interview in the first half.

Suit? He can patrol the technical area in stockings and suspenders if we win . On second thoughts, stick with the suit BM.

The first half was worryingly inept. Let's never speak of it again. Second half, transformed.

Still a lot of work to do and improvements required all over the pitch, but let's just enjoy the result and the second half.

Le Fondre, Tabb, Roberts, Shorey and particularly Morrison deserve great credit. Good save from Feds to deny Osman at a critical point in the game.

Well done. On to the next fixture, where hopefully we can generate and maintain the higher tempo for 90 minutes.

Supporters getting carried away after Everton missed a hatfull of chances in the first half and Reading win one match in 11 are naive. RFC were appalling again in the first half.

Goals still only coming from dead ball situations after hoof and run.

McD will be undone by not having a plan b or a grown up attitude to football. It was all park football.

Forest of Dean thank you for your compliment. We never learned our lesson from the last time we were in the premiership, did we with a good investment plan for players that the club needed. There are deficiency's in the squad which need to be addressed, so by winning one game is going the cure the problem? May be in your opinion it may do so. McD has not got the game plan right in the majorty of every game. Have you been to any league games at all to watch the team play.

Doing the hoof run technique with pog has not worked that is just one of many plays that has not worked. So lets not play social experiments each week with the team.

Our worst first half performance in a long time, but what a great second half. The transformation actually saw us passing the ball instead of hoofing it aimlessly up field. Morrison was superb at the back with HRK putting in a real wide player show. The rest of the team looked good in the second half, Alf with his goals and Roberts with his power stood out for me.

Congrats to BM on getting the win under his belt and now let's hope we can build on this. Message to BM, keep wearing the suit!!

Well done, cav007. At least you aired your negative comments. How about some comments from the other "doom and gloomers". Come on lads, you haven't missed your last chance (saloon), to put your comments on here. Well done to all the players for a stirling second half performance.

Well done guys, although a draw would have been acceptable based on the opposition, over the moon with the win. I have been saying for a while that we need to see Alfie start more games rather than just come on for the last 10 minutes and I was right ! I hope this is the start for him to have a run in the starting line up.
