Morrison: Reading FC win is just around the corner

By Jonny Fordham
November 13, 2012

Sean Morrison predicts a Reading win is just around the corner after helping register the first clean sheet of the season.

Royals drew 0-0 with Norwich City on Saturday - but have a much sterner text this weekend with the visit of Everton to Madejski Stadium.

However, young centre-back Morrison believes that Reading are not far off with their performances.

He said: "We're so close. We're literally an inch away from doing the right thing.

"If those draws can turn into wins then we will be fine."

Royals are unbeaten in five of their last six top flight games, but without a win in 10, they still remain in 18th place.

David Moyes' Toffees on the other hand have had a tremendous start to the season and are flying high in fourth place.

Brian McDermott's players are taking the positives ahead of what will be another tough league game - with the defence relieved to have finally picked up that clean sheet against the Canaries.

"It's all about getting clean sheets as a defender," added Morison.

"We're really proud of that and I think we deserved it.

"It was a bit of a nothing game (against Norwich) and there weren't many chances at either end. It's another point on the board.

"We have to build on this and go on to the Everton game."

Well I guess with the sad loss of Corporal Jones they had to wheel someone out to shout 'Don't panic'!

Equally I can hear Captain Mainwaring's response to McDermott's admission that he has created a situation whereby he only has two fit specialist centre midfielders to chose from: 'You stupid boy'

We're doomed I tell ye, we're all doomed.

I saw Robbo mentioning on TV Sunday night that RFC have a history of getting a win, then going on a run. True.

But given the last two seasons we've had runs of eight straight wins each time, assuming we win this month and it carries into December's fixtures (give them a look I dare you?!)... That's potentially quite a bloody run!

*goes back to day-dreaming*

Unfortunately around the corner is the road to the Championship.

Please please please just win something. Just scrape out of the relegation zone and we will ask no more.

David, Can I recommend, for family, friends and acquantances (paticularly those you aren't terribly fond of)the line of Brian McDermott action figures I'm producing?

I say producing, essentially I've come into possession of a lorry load of Inspector Montalbano dolls and have added glasses. I'm relying on this as a festive money spinner (am I too late for Dragons Den?).

Don't tell the club. I fear they may hijack my idea and package it as their own. The incorrigibe swines.

Reading will be the first EPL team in history to go down without a win. I've got £20 on it.

I'd like to see both Morrison & Pearce play against Everton. Need to sort out Pearce's contract out asap and get the lad on with Morrison. Two good, young CB's which, in my opinion, could gel well together and make Reading a tough team to score against......

Sean Morrison won't score until he stops heading the ball sidewards when it is easier to hit the target.

Calm yourself, Fishlips! This is no time for panic. It's 'very early days', as Smiffy always reminds us (wrongly).

I'm sure JM and AZ have got matters fully under control. Like Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan, or the Newsnight editors....oh, wait.

As you were, permission to panic is granted.

I suspect a Sean Morrison goal is just around the corner too.....looks a real threat in set pieces.

Surely a win against a "big" side is just what we need on sat........what am I talking about....any win....something...ANYTHING!!!

I certainly hope that a win is just round the corner. Then again, so's Christmas (done your shopping, David?). Didn't 'footer' used to open for Kraftwork, by the way?

At least he was honest in his assessment of Saturday as a 'nothing game'(in every sense of the word), in stark contrast to some.

SM has been solid in his performances so far and certainly hasn't looked out of place at this level. It also nice to see a bloke who closely resembles an indentikit 1980's nightclub doorman in the side (that may just be me though, to be fair).

Finally (you'll be delighted to hear), I see Brynn had a gallop round with the U-21's again yesterday. Does this mean he's in the frame for a spot on the bench against Everton, and (finally finally)have the much anticipated scan results on Guthrie's wounded thigh been received? He did have a scan didn't he? They're not giving us the mushroom treatment on this one, are they?

What a load of old tosh. If they ever do win, guess who will say "I told you so". Goodness sake of course they're going to win at some point but one win doesn't make a successful season and they need to seriously raise their game overall.

And I'm not even a footer follower.

You're welcome
