Dominic Samuel edges closer to Reading FC debut

November 08, 2012

Teenage star Dominic Samuel is edging closer to a first-team call-up at Reading.

Manager Brian McDermott rewarded the 19-year-old striker for his four goals this season by including him in Sunday’s travelling party to Queens Park Rangers.

It is not the first time that the England Under-19 international has joined the first-team squad, having flown up to Sunderland with them for their postponed game in August.

And McDermott said: “Dom is a talent and he is now allying that with work-rate.

“Before he was a talent. And with talent and no work-rate, then you have an issue.

“He now has that work-rate and is working hard. He’s getting closer and we’re inching him into the firstteam group and he trains with us a few times a week.

“If the young lads here see what happens with the like of Sean Morrison, Alex McCarthy then they must think they have an opportunity. I’m not just giving them lip service."

Seen the lad play a number of times always looks the part - It would be great to see him get a chance in the first team and see how he copes.....

Might be tomorrow!
