Sunderland v Reading FC postponed

August 25, 2012

The Premier League fixture between Sunderland AFC and Reading FC has been postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

The referee and both managers inspected the playing surface at 1.30pm before deciding to call the game off.

Reading manager Brian McDermott said: "When you prepare for a game, you're ready to play and you come to a Premier League ground in August and don't get to play, it is a bit bizarre. I've never seen anything like it - it was unplayable.

"We have to deal with that and now prepare for our game against Peterborough."

McDermott also revealed that Royals are currently working on organising a friendly game in Ireland during the upcoming international break.

Disagree...based on the performances against Stoke & Chelsea I would argue that Brian has got it about right. Guthrie/Pog/McCleary look VERY good.

Harb at least we keep a clean sheet for not getting any injuries playing against Sunderland. The players he has signed are very good and a shrewd move by McD he knows his players. We still need more depth in the squad cover big injuries or player suspension, another rated striker, rated midfield, rated defender. So what do you think people?

They should have played down at Richfield Ave, the ground there seemed to be okay for a rock festival.. pity it was not the other way around..I wouldn't mind seeing Reading win again.

I do think BM needs to open his eyes. The cover he talks about in terms of quality is not there. With a fully fit squad (Stoke starting 11) and all fit the subs bench is probably Kebe, Robson-Kanu, Mariappa, Roberts, Hunt, Karacan and McCarthy. There is probably cover in defence with Cummins and Shorey.. but in the midfield I cannot think of much worth putting on the bench or up front if we have injuries.. I do not think we need to spend a lot. (That is highly unlikely anyway) but perhaps a loan central midfielder or striker maybe another quick winger too.

I think leaving it as it is risky to say the least. I agree to with Harb. It would have been much better to play Sunderland now. A game in hand is nothing but another game to play and probably a LONG difficult trip midweek.

Still think we are in for a long struggle. If we keep everyone fit we have a good chance of staying up.. but there is a lack in depth for me.

cav007 - games in hand are nowhere near as good as points in the bag and no team can afford to get off to a slow start in the PL. We really could have done with hitting SUnderland for points yesterday whilst they are still trying to establish their team for this season.

That's a game in hand for Reading played later on in the year. Still need three players one midfield and another back, a striker with a bit of a profile.

Poru - Wycombe game abandoned but then, unlike Sunderland, they can only dream of frittering away £12M on one player. Looks like Sunderland should have spent a bit less on players and a bit more on their new pitch.

Hmm a bit pathetic that the game cannot go ahead. Drainage needs to be much better. How many other games are off? Not many!!

Probably good for the royals. Hopefully have Kebe, Roberts and Karacan fully fit for the next league game which seems years away! Might have been tiring for the lads to play 3 games in 7 days so early in the season. Three boring weekends ahead now!

Looks like we will not add to the squad this window. Hope they have got it right! Otherwise it will be panic buy time in January.

Up the royals!
