Watford won't stand in the way of Reading FC target Mariappa

Watford boss Gianfranco Zola won't stand in the way of in-demand centre-back Adrian Mariappa's Premier League dreams.

Reading are keen on the 25-year-old defender and face competition from Wigan and Southampton for his services.

It is believed that the Hornets would accept a bid of around £3million for the Jamiaca international who was named the club's 2011/12 player-of-the-season.

When Italian Zola was announced as the new boss at Vicarage Road yesterday, he confessed: "Adrian I know is a very good player and was one of the best last year.

"Obviously we want to keep him, but we understand it is not only our decision, also it's Adrian's.

"I understand he maybe has the possibility to go to the Premier League and I won't step in front of him and stop him if he wants to go."

Mariappa's agent held talks with Watford officials on Monday following their takeover.

Depends Lester. We might get some change if they ask for £2.99m. ;o)
