Brian McDermott has revealed Reading are in talks with a number of players about moving to Madejski Stadium.
Royals’ boss would not be drawn on the identity of his transfer targets, but told getreading the club are busy trying to add to the squad following promotion to the Premier League.
He said: “We have got some players we are trying to bring in at the moment. June is quite a quiet month for that, but we are in talks with a number of players as we speak.
“We have our targets and we will see what happens.”
His words will be welcome news to Royals fans keen to see the club bring in the signings needed to complement last season’s Championship-winning squad
But McDermott warned: “Just because we are in talks doesn’t mean it is necessarily going to happen. We are trying to get players in, but with any good player there is always going to be competition to sign him from elsewhere.
“We are no different to anybody else.”
The only player to arrive at Madejski Stadium so far this summer is Garath McCleary, who joined on a free transfer last month after his contract with Nottingham Forest expired.
Bids for McCleary’s former team-mate Chris Gunter and Watford’s Adrian Mariappa have both been rejected in recent weeks.
Royals continue to be linked with a move for £7 million-rated FC Copenhagen striker Dame N’Doye, while a move for Hull City midfielder Robert Koren is also being considered.
McDermott, though, insists he is happy to bide his time in the transfer market.
