Nigel Gibbs is looking forward to seeing tricky winger Garath McCleary tease and torment Premier League defenders next season.

Reading assistant manager Gibbs believes McCleary will be a shrewd investment for the club having captured the 25-year-old on a free transfer from Nottingham Forest earlier this summer.

“We’re delighted to have got the early signing of Garath,” said Gibbs.

“He’s a player we watched a fair bit and he was player of the season for Nottingham Forest, so it’s a good bit of business.

“He’s got plenty of pace and can score a goal.

“It’s another option in attack and he gives us plenty of options and strength in that area.

“We’re all looking forward to him coming in and it’s something we are very excited about.”

And Gibbs also explained his role in the process of signing players at the club.

He added: “I’m aware of the signings and who we are looking at and signing.

“I don’t get involved in the negotiations – but am part of the recommendations for players.

“The whole coaching staff are part of it, but the manager has the final say, but he always asks for opinions.”
