Griffin: Reading FC can book dream ticket

By Jonny Fordham
April 28, 2011

Andy Griffin is confident that Reading can book a dream ticket at Wembley for the play-off final.

The dates for the play-off semi-finals were finalised this week ahead of the £90million Wembley showdown on Monday, May 30:

Thursday, May 12 7.45pm 6th v 3rd*

Friday, May 13  7.45pm 5th v 4th

Monday, May 16 7.45pm 3rd v 6th**

Tuesday, May 17 7.45pm 4th v 5th

“We’re not bothered who we play, it is a little bit of a lottery,” said Griffin.

“Whether we finish in third, fourth, fifth or sixth and whoever we play, we’re confident that we can get to the final and win.”

Griffin’s team-mate Noel Hunt has also promised fans that Easter Monday’s surprise 3-2 home defeat to Sheffield United was just a blip ahead of Saturday’s game at Coventry.

He added: “It was schoolboy stuff from us and the manager wasn’t happy at half-time, but we need to pick ourselves back up for Coventry.

“We had a chat with the manager after the game and spoke among ourselves and we won’t let that happen again.

“Coventry is a big game, they’re playing with no fear and we have got to keep our foot on the gas and get back to winning ways.”

*If Nottingham Forest finish in fifth position, dates for the ties will be reversed due to cricket at Trent Bridge. ** Second legs would also be reversed

Wonder how true this is people. Celtic have pinpointed Republic of Ireland striker Shane Long as their No 1 transfer target this summer. In a major obstacle to Neil Lennon's plans to land the striker at the second attempt, however, Reading are poised to start the bidding at £5million after a stunning season for their top scorer. That is from this mornings Daily Mail and any comments on this Jonny??????

Interview a footballer (or a fan come to that) and you get the pointless obvious diatribes.

I just do not want to have to go through the Bolton and Walsall experience again! (note: assuming we get to Wembley)

*** As the Two Ronnies would say; I'll answer the fifth question second and the fourth question first. Clear as mud.
