Lee Hendrie is training with Reading as boss Brian McDermott gives the former England international the chance to revive his career.

The 33-year-old ex-Aston Villa midfielder played on loan at League One Brighton at the back end of last season.

McDermott said: “We’ll have a look at Lee over a period of two or three weeks. He’s very fit and hungry. If you put this boy in the right position then something could happen.

“I’ve got a good feeling about this and I hope it goes well for him. He’s a player who plays off the striker and in between the lines. He feels he can play at this level still and he could be quite exciting for us.”

Royals’ boss denied trying to sign Leicester striker Matty Fryatt yesterday, but revealed the club made enquiries about another forward.

McDermott added: “We made an offer for someone else. We know who’s available, but I won’t act on haste.”

A week today Royals will check out the Premier League players left out of their club’s 25-man squads.

Ex-Reading and Swindon striker Simon Cox could be available on loan if he fails to feature in Roberto Di Matteo’s first-team plans at West Brom.

O.K. don't know what all the fuss is about. A guy is 'trialling' with the club, as so many have previously. This time 'the guy' has a career reputation which has of course become news over others that have never been disclosed. Good luck to Lee Hendrie if he's still good enough. My only concern is there seems to be a growing 'old boys' network within the team. This may not be a problem at all, but I'm hoping it doesn't stifle the younger players and also slow down our game, which has in recent years relied on pace. I think experience in a side is a great thing, but to go too far.....................?

Thanks Dan for the English lesson and the literacy skills to go with it most appropriate for you to say so.It still does not change much JM is still tight fisted with the money. You will still say they will go up but deep down you know Reading has no chance of promotion now. A lot of you think that someone from ozzy knows about football is BS. But i will tell you one thing Reading have blown there chances now to get promotion. They signed one good player when it should have been another 3 or 4 good players to sign, but for some good reason they did not. So lads i will keep adding ozzy dollars worth for you and tell you told you so at the end of the season they were not good enough to go up. Thanks for the Pommie compliments.

So he "failed" at other clubs, it is widely accepted that Kebe under SC was a totally different player to Kebe under BM, why can't the same thinking be applied here, at least let the guy train AND if he does ok then judge him on the pitch! Get over that fact we are a small club and have been doign well....... just ask any fans of bradford, luton, etc etc etc about being solvent and not gambling with your financial future because the fans want you too.......

He'll be as cheap as chips if he didn't do well at Brighton (and they could afford his wages)...so worth a punt on a short contract.

I don't think getting Hendrie will stop us looking at some quality loanees.
