Ingimarsson now out until late August

Captain Ivar Ingimarsson insists he won’t rush himself back to action after his injury comeback was put back.

It was hoped that the 32-year-old would be fit enough to play a part in yesterday’s behind-closed-doors friendly with Aldershot, which Royals lost 2-0.

But now it is anticipated that Ingimarsson won’t be back in full first-team action for around another three to four weeks.

“My fitness is okay,” Ingimarsson told getreading.

“I’m getting along fine. At the moment I’m still only training with the physio, but we’ve been increasing it all and strengthening. It seems to be going okay.

“I’m still not training with the group. When that happens I will need my pre-season games like the rest of the lads, so it’s a little way off still.

“I feel fine, I had much more time out last season and this isn’t so bad.”

In Ingimarsson’s absence 24-year-old centre-back Matt Mills will skipper Royals against Southampton on Saturday (3pm kick-off).

Manager Brian McDermott will field his strongest side possible at St Mary’s with Mills set to play against his younger brother Joseph.

Former Saints midfielder Brian Howard should partner Jay Tabb in the midfield and another ex Southampton star, Grzegorz Rasiak, is hopeful he will have recovered from a rib injury he picked up during the 2-0 win over Inter Zapresic in Croatia.

Skinflint or skint? Relegation from the premiership and not bouncing back is financially devastating (see league 1 table). Madejski, (rightly) isn't going to jeopardise his business's to gamble on the footy club. Ask any Pompey fan if overspending in the search for glory is worth it. Priority number 1: there's a footy match to go to on a Saturday. Unless you are a sheik from Manchester, this is the age of austerity unfortunately.

The skinflint mentality will surely prevail and we will gamble with the non-existent cover that we have. Get ready for 'there is always the loan market if we need it'. And I can always pay the price for only bothering to insure my expensive car third party.

Sometimes I can't help thinking Poundland might be a more appropriate sponsor!

"There was talk of Curtis Davies somewhere I read, Aston Villa may let us have him on loan, you never know. "

Jonny Fordham rubbished this on the webchat during the Wolves friendly.

I know he's a left back, but I'd love for us to get Joseph Mills.

Hope that Jack Mills can step up this season then..

Griffin could play at centre half, Karacan at right back, kebe central midfield, hunt on the right wing and Fedders up front with Hamer in goal - come on you lot, look outside the bubble!

Am I right in saying Zurab Khizanishvili still has a year left on his Blackburn contract? I'm sure the club are watching to see if anyone takes Big Sam up on his "you can leave for free" offer and, if nobody does take him up, I'm SURE they'll make an offer to loan him again.

Jay DeMerit is also a VERY good shout from RFC4EVA.

I agree with RFC4EVA's latest comment, we need to offload the deadwood and then get a loanee or buy one. There was talk of Curtis Davies somewhere I read, Aston Villa may let us have him on loan, you never know.

Ingi could end up a bit like Sonks, he wasn't the same after returning from that Knee injury...

I fear we probably need to offload Mooney/Davies/Cummings before we could bring in Zurab

I fear it just won't be the same Ingi when (if) he returns.

Zurab!!!

All we need is cover for the main 3 so how come we aren't looking at some players such as Steven Caldwell/Jay Demerit both I believe are out of contract and are seasoned Championship players..

Not sure of any other players out there going for free??
