Wycombe Wanderers next up for Reading FC

By Jonny Fordham
July 22, 2010

Reading have returned home safely from their pre-season tour of Slovenia and will now be turning their attentions to Saturday’s friendly at Wycombe Wanderers.

Brian McDermott’s men registered an impressive 3-1 win over Red Star Belgrade B, defeated Croatian top-flight side Inter Zapresic 2-0, but sadly lost the final game 1-0 to NK Celje.

“The tour has been excellent and the facilities have been first-class,” said 49-year-old boss McDermott.

Jonny Fordham's Slovenian tour diary: Coming home

“The group together, the staff and the players, have a real good spirit. It hurt to lose that final game and you could see the players were trying to get something out of it.

“That holds us in good stead for the season though. We will always try to do everything we can to get this club the results.”

Goalkeeper Adam Federici will make his first pre-season appearance against Gary Waddock’s Chairboys on Saturday (3pm kick-off) after he travelled to Ptuj with the rest of the team following his World Cup adventure.

Striker Noel Hunt is unlikely to be risked after he picked up a minor groin strain and Grzegorz Rasiak will be monitored after inuring his ribs in the 2-0 win against Inter.

Right-back Julian Kelly will almost definitely miss out after he picked up a thigh strain in Tuesday’s defeat at Arena Petrol.

What I need to know is, have I been spelling "know" wrong the whole time or is this "kinow" a new way of spelling?

Something strange here! McDermott seems to have been described as being 49 for about three years now. Has he found the secret to eternal youth? Will he ever turn 50? We, the fans, need to kinow.
