Reading reserves 0 Exeter City reserves 1

March 10, 2010

Scott Davies was the only first-team squad member to play as Royals reserves lost to Exeter City reserves on Tuesday night.

Academy manager Eamonn Dolan, also in charge of the reserves, picked a team made up of 10 first year scholars ahead of the club deciding who will be awarded professional contracts in the summer.

Jacob Walcott and Carl McHugh left the field with first-half injuries and centre-back Angus McDonald was subbed as he felt ill with an hour gone.

James Rowe came close to finding an equaliser in the second-half but hit the bar.

Dolan said: “Exeter were the best team in the first half and caused us problems, they were very experienced and that will be a great learning curve for our young boys.

“The second half was much more open and we created plenty of chances.

“We are disappointed to lose, but there were plenty of positives and it will do the guys a world of good to come up against the likes of Fleetwood and McAlister.”

Reading reserves: Locke, Arnold, McHugh (Isaac, 30), O. Kelly, Hector, Macdonald (Stockinger, 60), Bell-Baggie, Davies, White, Taylor, Walcott (Rowe, 46). Subs not used: Smith and Goddard.
