Brian Howard admits he owes Derby County a beating after suffering a broken jaw in his last game against them.

The midfielder left Pride Park in agony last November after a clash with Shaun Barker and to make matters worse he was taunted by County’s mascot Rammie the Ram, who thought he was feigning injury.

Reading lost 2-1 and Howard, who needed an operation to wire his jaw back into place, was ruled out for six weeks.

“I owe Derby one after breaking my jaw,” said the 27-year-old, who is currently recovering from flu-like symptoms.

Despite lasting only 60 minutes of Royals’ 4-2 defeat at home to Aston Villa in the FA Cup quarter-finals at Madejski Stadium on Sunday, he said: “Hopefully I’ll be fit to take my place in the team.

“The games come thick and fast now and it’s all about concentrating on the league. We need to continue our recent form and get in the top half of the table.”

And manager Brian McDermott has promised fans a feast of attacking football on Wednesday night.

He said: “You want to watch games where there is plenty of action with teams playing on the front foot and trying to win.

"I want my players to go out and perform to the best of their ability like they did against Aston Villa.”

I wonder if Rammie the Ram will show up at the Mad Stad to meet and greet Brian Howard?
