McDermott still looking for a win ahead of Reading FC appointment

Brian McDermott would love to get all three points against Sheffield United tonight ahead of his expected managerial appointment later this week.

The former chief scout took over from sacked manager Brendan Rodgers on December 16, but has yet to win in the Championship as Royals now sit in 22nd place and four points from safety.

However, with chairman Sir John Madejski due to return from holiday in Tenerife on Wednesday, McDermott is still likely to be handed a contract until at least the end of the season.

And even though the Blades and Royals are separated by 14 league places, McDermott knows his team are more than capable of getting a result at Bramall Lane after claiming two Premier League scalps in the FA Cup.

He told the Post: “We know all about Sheffield United as we’ve been competing against them over a period of time now from when we went up from the Championship.

“We’ve always had good games against them historically and I’m sure this one will be no different.

“They will be there or there abouts at the end of the season and Bramall Lane is a difficult place to go and play at, but we’re ready and prepared.”

McDermott has no fresh injury worries ahead of the trip to South Yorkshire where Royals have won their last two league games against United and are unbeaten in their last six.

Jonny Fordham writes: “Yorkshire has been a happy hunting ground for Reading of late, but Sheffield United are desperate to keep up the pace and get back into the top six.

“I’m expecting this one to be a physical encounter, but the Blades also have some quality footballers such as Mark Yeates and Ched Evans who will be a danger to Royals.

“All that said, I’m still going for a 1-1 draw.”

2 points from 5 games in charge and we're going to give him the job. I bet Madejski follows the announcement by spouting some rubbish about the club's ambition.

Cheap option after cheap option.

Would be happy with a draw and then follow it up with a win against Barnsley on Saturday! Looking at some of our upcoming games - February looks a pivitol month - could do with at least 10 pts from Feb alone.

On Brian McDermott - the job to the end of the season would seem the most logical idea, then re-assess.

C'mon URZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
