Maestro Marek loves pulling the strings at Reading FC

Playmaker Marek Matejovsky has promised Royals fans there is more to come from him after cementing his place in Brendan Rodgers’ first-team.

The classy Czech Republic international has put his frustrating start to the season behind him and is currently enjoying a run of four consecutive starts in the blue and white hoops.

The talented midfielder is almost certain to keep his place for Saturday’s trip to face 19th- placed Derby County at Pride Park (3pm kick off) after he had a hand in both of Reading’s goals against Blackpool last Saturday.

But the modest 27-year-old said: “After half-time against Blackpool I gave the ball away a bit, but I feel I will get better as I play more games.

“Sometimes you can get a bit lucky when crossing into the box, but it was a great finish by Grzegorz Rasiak to win the game for us.

“He has a killer instinct in the box and his finishing is great in training every day. It’s great to have Churchy (Simon Church) too, as he is more of a runner, so they both offer something different to the team.

“I want to play every game here and if I’m playing and we’re winning then I’m really happy. Last week I was back in the international set-up too so that is good for me also.”

Matejovsky has justified his starting credentials with solid performances in recent games and has struck up a good partnership with summer-signing Brian Howard in the process.

“Playing in the middle with Brian is good,” admitted  Matejovsky.

“I’ve been asked to sit in front of the central defenders and help spread the ball from the keeper and full-backs and to be disciplined to not drift too far forward.

“The gaffer looks at other teams and how they play before deciding the formation and line-up for us and we have enough players here to get the results we are capable of.

“Brendan is keen to play football on the ground with a passing mentality and I think now our style is a little bit better for the fans to watch also.”

Reading’s next two league fixtures are away from Madejski Stadium, but after Matejovsky and his team mates finally got the taste for winning at home again, he’s hoping the win can be aspringboard for more success.

“It was great to get the win at home after such a long wait,” added Matejovsky.

“Hopefully we can get the same result in the next home game (against Crystal Palace on December 8).

“We’ve put in quite a few good performances this season, but haven’t got the result we often deserved.

“But now our football is good and I think we can move on and push up the table.”

To be honest, BR probably did not realise how good Marek could be. Marek needed a run of games to get form, BR was reluctant to let that happen. Now BR is seeing the REAL Marek emerging...

The question to ask Brendan Rodgers is why wasn't Marek in the team earlier in the season? In the games he has played the football has been of good quality and he does bring other players into the game in positions other clubs find it difficult to defend against. Keep Marek in the team. The formation against Blackpool worked a treat and seems like lots of homework is being done on future opponents.
