Brendan Rodgers race to sign loan star

Brendan Rodgers’ hunt to bring in a new striker on loan is set to go down to the wire.

The Reading manager has until midnight tomorrow to secure any emergency loan signings.

And he risks being left with Grzegorz Rasiak as his only match-fit striker ahead of Saturday’s trip to Derby County (3pm kick off).

The Reading Post understands that Rodgers has made enquiries to several Premier League clubs about the availability of players over the weekend, after receiving two knockbacks over possible deals last week.

He said: “I’m still looking for the right type of player who will add something different to the group we already have here.

“I was working hard during the international break, but we have a young squad and it’s important that I keep the balance right. I’m looking for a particular type of player.”

Rodgers hasn’t been in contact with Chelsea about any of their young stars, but could go back to his old club for new additions when the transfer window re-opens in January.

However, he will have to sell to raise cash if he wants to bring in any permanent signings in January as funds are severely stretched at the club this season.

Striker Noel Hunt is sidelined for the rest of the season after having surgery on his left knee, while Wales international Simon Church will be closely monitored this week after suffering a hip injury in last Saturday’s 2-1 win over Blackpool. Winger Jimmy Kebe is another fitness worry for Rodgers after picking up a groin injury.

Top scorer Rasiak looks likely to be promoted to the starting line-up against Derby after he came off the bench and headed home Royals’ winner against Blackpool.

Rodgers’ side are joint-third lowest scorers in the league with just 17 goals from as many games.

Saturday’s opponents Derby have also found goals hard to come by. Nigel Clough’s side have managed to find the back of the net just two more times than Reading and have lost four of their last five games.

its extremely unlikely we are getting anyone in. just as we have seen all season a bunch of broken promises, how come league 1 teams and other championship teams don't have that problem, even barnsley and watford (no disrespect to these clubs) have managed to get decent loans in

A striker that offers something different at the moment would be one that scores goals! Marek is our main saleable asset, and to trade him for an average forward would be a retrograde move.

Heard a rumour that the striker we are after on loan is Burnleys Martin Paterson. Burnley have gone with nugent and the lad from scotland they signed (can't remember his name) and Paterson wants a loan move to start playing again and RFC are sniffing around along with another championship club.. I wonder if this is true, will find out within the next day or so

The situation at Reading FC really is beyond a joke now. "However, he will have to sell to raise cash if he wants to bring in any permanent signings in January as funds are severely stretched at the club this season." The only saleable asset left following the Chairman's savage cloth cutting is Marek and to get rid of him would weaken, not strengthen our squad.

The Chairman and his business management team have spent years telling us how well the club is being run, yet suddenly we are left facing this type of situation.

So Mr Chairman, please either put some money where your mouth is or cut your losses, settle for less than your expectations and let someone else take over your problem.

Like Fred Baines has stated... if he cant get someone in its the Board's fault because he isn't being given the money to do so! I hope BR does get someone as we need another option upfront.

Trust the man, i'm sure he will get someone decent who can compliment the CF we already have... but if he can't don't point the finger at him, point the finger at the board for not giving him the money to do it.
