Jobi McAnuff targets unbeaten run for Reading FC

Jobi McAnuff has challenged his Reading teammates to go on an unbeaten run of games to edge them closer to the play-offs and away from the relegation zone.

With Royals now sitting in 20th place and 10 points off the top six, the wing-wizard is confident that their current rich vein of form is just a benchmark for things to come.

The 28-year-old summer signing picked up October’s AHG Group sponsored Reading Post player-of-the-month award and his personal form has helped ignite the team back to winning ways.

“We’re 10 points off the play-offs, which over the course of a season is nothing,” explained the experienced Championship star.

“It’s a long old season, those of us that have been around a long time know this. We just want to go on a decent run, stay unbeaten for a while and pick up some decent wins and see where it takes us.”

It took Royals more than 25 hours of football to get a league win at home, and McAnuff was delighted to have finally put that record to bed.

“I guess it’s something less for you guys (the media) to write about now when you’re doing a match report,” joked McAnuff.

“But it is a big thing and has been a long time coming and we want to kick on now.

“We’ve been having a chat about our form and the home issues between ourselves and in the last couple of home games before this we felt we had done enough to win them.

“We let Blackpool back in the game with a bit of a sloppy goal, but in the last few weeks we’ve been responding well when we’ve conceded and again we kicked on after they went level and we went on to get the winner.”

Historically Reading have struggled in the league after the international breaks, but with a two-week breather behind them, can now focus fully on the Championship with a run of six games in December coming up, after this Saturday’s away trip to 19th placed Derby County (3pm kick-off).

And former Wimbledon and West Ham United ace McAnuff added: “The few days off for me personally was well-needed and I enjoyed it.

“I just chilled out, I’m getting old now, so it’s important for me to get the rest days in and work hard when I’m back in training.

“It was a tough week and we certainly earned the days off, but a bit of hard work in training was what we needed as well I guess.”

JB has been brilliant since joining and very consistent. can't believe all those negative comments about him from the Watford fans.. Maybe its because he also decided to leave them for RFC and they don't like it one bit..
