Kevin Dillon named Aldershot Town boss

By Matthew Sadler
November 09, 2009

Former Reading first-team coach Kevin Dillon has been unveiled as the new boss of League Two side Aldershot Town..

The 49-year-old was released by Royals at the end of last season after Steve Coppell’s reign at Madejski Stadium came to an end.

Dillon takes over from Jason Dodd who was in temporary charge at The Rec after Gary Waddock left to join Wycombe Wanderers.

Aldershot's acting chairman John Leppard said: "We went through the interview process last week and were impressed with the quality of applicants. Kevin was impressive at interview. His organisational qualities and professionalism was head and shoulders above the other candidates.

"He has done extensive research regarding the club and has watched the team play on a number of occasions recently. He knows the style of play that we have at the club and is aware of the ability of the squad of players. He also possesses great contacts within the game.

"The whole appointment is a progressive move for the club and we are highly delighted to have Kevin on board as our new manager and we look forward to working with him".

August 2010: League 1: Aldersh*t 1 Reading 0. Big possibility. Whoever would have thought that 2 years ago?!

Congratulations Dill. Good to hear you have finally become a manager. Gary Waddock laid down the foundations there so you have a good opportunity to take them up to the next division.

I recall Dill (I'm sure it was Dill - David Downes can answer) scoring direct from a corner in a 6-1 win against Torquay in about 92/93. A loyal servant to Reading FC while he was here as a player, youth/academy coach, reserve manager, first team coach and assistant manager and it will be no different while he's manager for them. Shame we won't be allowed to play them in a pre-season match at their ground to give Reading fans the chance to show their appreciation for his work at Reading.

   Good luck Dills.

Was one of my favourite Reading players. I remember a rare goal where he broke from midfield, left the oppositions defence static as he raced through & scored. (I think they were the slowest team in the league!). Always a classy player and a real gent off the pitch. Hope it goes well for you.

Well done Dills. Make Shane Long your first signing. A bid of about £28 will get him.
