Steve Coppell is front-runner for Brighton job

November 04, 2009

Former Reading boss Steve Coppell has emerged as the front-runner for the vacant manager post at Brighton and Hove Albion.

Coppell left the Withdean for Madejski Stadium in 2003 and is favourite for the job after Russel Slade was sacked from the League One strugglers on Sunday.

The 54-year-old has been out of football since leaving Royals after he failed to stear them back into the Premier League last season.

During his five-year spell at Reading Coppell communted from Sussex to Berkshire and he could also link up with former Royals player Nicky Forster.

As A Reading fan living in Brighton, don't do it Sir Steve! Seen Brighton play this season and they were an utter shambles. If you think watching Reading has been painful this season, it was like watching a Rolls Royce compared to an old banger. All the best if you take it Steve, they can't get any worse and you will be a hero once again!!

Lord Steve, a great sincere guy. If he had a failing, it was being too nice and not being prepared or able to take on Hammond and SJM when they wanted to run the club on a shoe string budget. Even so, he achieved the impossible for us for a time, for which I will be eternally grateful.

No disrespect to Brighton but Steve should be managing at a prem club - however good luck to him if he takes it & well done Brighton.

Director of Football at Reading would be his ideal job though! Not sure we have one at the moment -- tee hee!

Would be a good move, their new stadium is due next year and things will be looking up for them if he (as expected) keeps them away from relegation this season.

Hope he takes it, and best of luck if he does.

How about we give Brendon to Brighton and we get Sir Steve back where he belongs?!

I still think Steve Should ply his trade at the top level. I know Steve is a slow burner, but there are always a few Prem clubs whom ditch their managers just before xmas.

It will be an ideal job for him if he applies for it and gets it. With them moving into a new stadium soon the future looks brighter and they could easily do something similar to what Reading achieved under Sir Steve. What are the chances of Kevin Dillon and Wally Downes joining up with him if he does go there?
