Noel Hunt out for the season

By Jonny Fordham
October 28, 2009

Noel Hunt has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a knee injury.

The 26-year-old Republic of Ireland striker had an operation on his injured knee on Wednesday evening.

Hunt has been struggling with the injury since the back end of last season and suffered a reoccurrence of the problem after he made his debut for his country earlier this month.

The news is a major blow to Royals who are now only left with three fit strikers in Wales international Simon Church, Republic of Ireland star Shane Long and Poland international Grzegorz Rasiak.

Boss Brendan Rodgers told the Post: “Noel’s been struggling with the injury on and off for some time now.

“He’s having the operation to help sort things out and that will probably rule him out for the rest of the season.”

Meanwhile, Darren O'Dea is back in training after missing the Leicester game with a groin problem. He will now be monitored and could be in contention to face Coventry City.

Left-back Chris Armstrong could return to light training next week.

Nathan Ellington is available and would complement McAnuff perfectly! Come on Brendan, give us some more money for old rope!

Sorry I do actually rate him when fit, but signing Noel was a huge mistake. He is too injury prone & if the club has any sense he will not be offered a new deal when his current one expires.

He had a long term knee problem when still at Dundee so why did Coppell buy him? I presume he had his ear bent by Stephen & eventually caved in.

WE NEED NEW STRIKERS. GET YOUR WALLET OUT JOHN!

Mad Royal my name and nature it seems.

Mooney is all well and good for league 1, but he just doesnt have the quality at this level, and in any case i dont think he would fit into the preferred rodgers system.

That said we desperately need a goal scorer, now more than ever and if a loan signing is not around the corner, then we could do worse than Mooney...

Anyway, lets hope Noel (and his goals) return as soon as possible!

Now you defintely need to get a striker in on loan and don't be tight with the wages contribution if you have any hope of staying in this division next season!
