Simon Church has total faith in manager

By Jonny Fordham
October 23, 2009

Simon Church believes the Reading players couldn’t have a better manager than Brendan Rodgers.

The Wales striker said that the whole team were behind their under-fire boss and that they were desperate to repay the 36-year-old by taking all three points from Monday night’s game against Leicester City (live on Sky Sports 1, 8pm kick-off).

The 20-year-old is Royals joint top scorer this season with two goals and came close to his third in the 4-1 defeat to QPR on Tuesday night, hitting the post with a well-placed right-footed free-kick from 20-yards.

And the former Academy graduate knows that Rodgers is the right man to turn it around at Madejski Stadium.

“I honestly believe that we’ve got the best manager for the job,” said Church.

“We’re all behind the manager and the coaching staff and training is great and has been since Brendan came in.

“We know we need to do better than we have done recently and we are desperate to turn it around.”

The Foxes will be looking to capitalise on Royals poor start to the season in front of the TV cameras, but Reading will be just as desperate to turn their season around after three resounding defeats on the bounce.

Reading haven’t won in the league at home for more than nine months and Church admits that they need to go out on Monday night and give the home fans something to shout about.

“I feel for the fans,” admitted the High Wycombe-born youngster.

“As players we are all trying as hard as we can for the fans, the manager and everyone at Reading Football Club.

“We need the support of the fans and to have them on our side.

“It would be great to see as many as possible there at the next game getting behind us and supporting us on the pitch.”

And he added: “Whatever team is picked for the Leicester game needs to make sure we start to turn things around.

“The manager has made quite a few changes recently, but when things aren’t going your way and you’re not getting the results then you can’t expect to keep your place on the pitch. It’s up to us to prove that we can do a job though.”

I did watch at the end of last season - at Derby and at Sheffield Wednesday where we both won- and we were much better than agianst QPR on Tuesday. Long scored in both games and was a different player when compared to Tueday. I also saw the the last game against Birmingham and the two play-off games. We were way off the pace in the last twenty minutes against Burnley at Reading but, in those three games, we put in a much better performance than against QPR last Tuesday where we were outperformed by ten men in the latter part of the First Half. There were some weaknesses in parts of the team at the end of last season. There are glaring problems in most areas of the team at the moment

Now all Rodgers needs is the vote of confidence from the Chairman and he can pack his bags.

When Rodgers arrived here nothing needed turnning around. We needed to strengthen to get beyond the play-offs. After four months of Rodgers the next manager will need to turn it around as we are plunging towards Division One.
