Ingimarsson: I should have been more careful

By Jonny Fordham
October 23, 2009

Ivar Ingimarsson admits he only has himself to blame for the suspension that will rule him out  of Monday night’s home game against Leicester City.

Royals’ captain must serve an automatic one-match ban after being sent off in the club’s 4-1 defeat at QPR in midweek.

Darren O’Dea is now likely to partner Matt Mills at the heart of Reading’s defence, while fit-again Ryan Bertrand is set to return at left back.

It will be the first game that Ingimarsson has missed since he made his comeback from a knee injury that sidelined him for eight  months.

“I’m very disappointed to have been sent off and I can only really blame myself,” said the Icelandic defender.

“I think I made three fouls, one of which was a yellow card in the first half. But knowing that, I should have been more careful in the second half.

“Saying that it was the beginning of the half and I wanted to go out and win the first tackle and make a good impression straight away.

“Sadly it didn’t work out that way – and we all know how it ended.”

The 33-year-old will be in the dressing room and around the squad on match day as Reading go in search of their third win of the season.

Fans’ favourite Marek Matejovsky could also be in line to start only his second league game of the campaign after impressing in the reserves’ 4-0 thrashing of Swansea City on Wednesday.

Manager Brendan Rodgers said: “He was excellent. We’ve looked at the team and various things and Marek will be in contention for Monday.”

I agree with you there "Say what you think" ; the heart and soul has been ripped out of Reading FC this season. Let's get back Harper and Rosenior from their loans and lets get some life back into this club. Marek should be starting every game- he is head and shoulders above anyone in our current midfield (save for Gunnarsson who will run his socks off- shame he wasn't 5 years younger!)

I think that this is only the second sending off in Ivar's career. The first time was against Bradford a few years ago when he came up against Dean Windass. That dismissal was harsh. Tuesday's dismissal was different. Ivar's second tackle was poor and late. He should have known that the ref was trying to even things up after the Watson dismissal. It shows a growing lack of discipline in the team. OK the tackle showed commitment but such a clumsy tackle was not needed in that part of the pitch.
