Nightmares for Jobi McAnuff after horror moment

By Jonny Fordham

Jobi McAnuff knows he’ll have a few rough nights sleep after his calamitous back-pass gifted West Brom a way back into Reading’s 3-1 defeat on Saturday.

Royals took the lead through a Matt Mills header on five minutes, but the midfielder’s miscued kick at the half-hour mark allowed Jerrome Thomas a golden chance to score the Baggies equaliser.

And the 27-year-old winger held his hands up for his poor touch to goalkeeper Adam Federici on the half-way line against the table-topping side.

He said: “I just mis-kicked it, totally shanked it and it’s one of those horror moments you have once in your career, it never seems to happen when you’re 3-0 up.

“It’s one of those things where you have to do better from a personal point of view.

“I’ll definitely be thinking about it quite a bit, I’ll see it on the way home, on the TV again and then I’ll get some texts through and it will be on the TV next week. I’ll have to ride it out for a while, but deservedly so.”

To rub salt into McAnuff’s wounds, just minutes earlier he had the opportunity to double Royals’ lead from close range, but spooned his shot over goalkeeper Scott Carson’s bar.

“It was another decent chance and a another time I should do better,” admitted McAnuff.

“I’m at that end of the pitch to put them in really, but it’s one of those things that happen and you’ve just got to pick yourself up and get in a position to try and knock in another one.

“The game was pretty similar to how it’s been going for us really.

“At the moment we’re not responding well enough when we have a set-back. And at 1-1 you’re still very much in the game, but we never went on from there and played as well as we did before we conceded.”

And McAnuff also knows that he will have the full support from his team-mates after his error at the Hawthorns where 21st placed Reading lost for the second consecutive league game and sixth time this season.

He added: “They understand that things happen, unfortunately it was me and it’s disappointing that you’ve contributed to a defeat but you cant let those things affect you too much on the pitch as you end up being a man down.”

You bought the wrong bloke. All the Watford fans were chuckling away when Not Quite Goodanuff took his Bentley down the M4. He never did it at Watford. Every promising run through on goal ended up him trying to rob a penalty rather than scoring.

Sorry, Brother. The only way that's going to happen is when there is a new face sitting in the middle of the directors box. Cut Cut cut cut

No Big P, but we do go 2 up. This team has gone from Play Off aspirations to Div 1 desperations. The Boys need to turn into Men and soon. BR needs to get a grip and play Marek for all our games, he is our only Class act left, boy, do we still miss Sidwell.

Not surprised it never happens when we are 3-0 up. We never go 3-0 up, that's why.

Since notgoodenough is only going to try against Watford, Palace and Cardiff we would be better off not playing him in the rest. We really needed THE Watford winger (Smith) not A Watford winger! Wrong again Rodgers.

Glad he's come out and held his hands up about this one- was truly shocking and summed up Reading this season
