Adam Federici warns Reading FC rivals of Royal beating

By Jonny Fordham
September 23, 2009

Adam Federici has warned Reading’s Championship rivals that one of them will be on the wrong end of footballing master-class soon.

The 24-year-old goalkeeper feels that even though the 21st-placed Royals haven’t got going in the league so far this season, a big result is just around the corner.

And the Australian international would love it if the team could put it all together against manager Brendan Rodgers’ old side Watford this Saturday at Madejski Stadium (3pm kick-off).

The confident 6ft 2ins keeper said: “I’m sure in the future there will be teams that will cop six or seven from us because some of the football we’ve been playing has been superb.

“We’re just waiting for that win big win to get our confidence back and we can go on from there.

“The boys have got a lot to prove and I really do believe that in the next few games someone’s going to get four or five nil from us.

“Slowly but surely it’s all coming together. It’s only eight games in and it’s a long way to go.

“We have so much talent in this group and we all just need to click together for the full 90 minutes.”

After the defeat some fans have heavily criticised Northern Irishman Rodgers after Royals have managed just one win, three draws and suffered four defeats in the league.

But Federici admitted that anyone calling for the manager to be sack was wrong.

“That’s a bit ridiculous,” confessed Federici.

“Brendan’s a fantastic manager and I don’t think managers ever come into a job straight away and get it right.

“It took a few years for Steve Coppell to get everything right here and everyone needs to be patient, the results will come the way things are set up here and we got a preview of that in the first 45 on the weekend.”

Reading’s number one also admitted that it had been hard dealing with the 3-2 defeat at Peterborough United after leading the match 2-0 at the half-way stage.

He continued: “You try to forget about it really, we should have just finished it off and got out of there with a 2-0 win really.

“We gave them two silly goals, they came out and fought and played with their hearts on their sleeves and it was a good result for them.

“To be fair at the end of the game you would say that they deserved to win.

“We’ve all got to stand up, you can’t call out individuals at all, we need to stand up as a team and come through that as a team.

“We’ve got to do the ugly stuff and we didn’t do that in the second half.

“We’ve had four days to reflect on the Peterborough game, try and get it out of our mind and put everything into practice and play the full 90 minutes of the next game.

“It could have been pretty embarrassing in the second half and thankfully it wasn’t.

“We should have got the message from the first five minutes when they put the header on target, we’ve got to learn and go on from there.”

Reading still haven’t won at Madejski Stadium in the league since January 27 and Federici also confessed that it was a record the whole team were desperate to get rid of.

He added: “We’ve still got that on our backs and we need to get rid of that one.

“I’m sure everyone will be buzzing for the Watford game, not only to win, but to put everything right that has been going on over the last few weeks here.”

to early in his career? the way you get experience is by playing!

marcus hanaman is half the keep federici is! How many pens did marcus save hahaha none how many mistakes does marcus make loads! yes Feds made tht howler earlier in season... but whos the best shot stopper Feds oh wait he also scored a goal against the welsh scum! Wait whos more experienced? Hanaman! hahaha experience makes a big difference? i dont think so.

i agree royals fan, we have the most un loyal fans in the league! the amount of empty seats by the end of a game is a discrace! people should stay till the end and support the team, its what they paid for isnt it?

Fred, Not sure I agree with you on Feds - Cannot see the rationale for sending him on loan to a lower division - did he not go on loan last year for a spell? Who would replace him the hugely experienced Ben Hamer perhaps? Or are you suggesting an on loan keeper from another club? Surely another club would only lend us a keeper that isn't getting a game? What would be the point.

i'm not picking on him just stating we need an experienced keeper at the club and gave my opinion on what i thought, i actually think he has all the attributes to be a top keeper just think its to early in his career to be playing regularly at this level and should have gained experience at a lower level first by have a run of games

I say keep Fed's in the team. h8s-Rfc-Moaners, Reading - I'm so glad that there is another on this website that posts on this website that is behind the boys instead picking on them. The comments on here are starting to sound like those on hob nob and I dislike that site!

i do support the team you mug i've been supporting them through thick and thin for the last 25 years home and away every season. I'm not denying his natural ability you idiot just stating that in my opinion he should have been loaned out for 2 seasons to get EXPERIENCE if he was going to be the next number one, EXPERIENCE is a massive thing for a keeper to have, its more important than any other position on the pitch.... he's the most experienced keeper at the club and hasn't even played 25 games is that right???? i don't thinks so... An experienced keeper at the club is a must!!!!

Omg Have you heard yourselves Reading Fans! Adam Federcici is a quality keeper so dont give all the ball bout him not being experienced! You lot want team like this in the next 4 years dont ya.. English Champions, European Champions, Fa cup holders and Carling cup holders!

It takes time to get a new team and new manager to gell! we arent going to go down! We play good football and its only a matter of time untill we get the last peice of the puzzle! Support the team and we might get somewhere!!!

Big mistake IMO having AF as number one, he's only young and has very little experience which is evident in some of the goals he has let in, not denying he had a excellent game at swansea, had a few decent games last year when MH was injured and a couple of run outs in the cups , he's also had a few months here and there on loan at various clubs but has also had about 3 seasons on the bench and to me that is not enough experience to be playing regularly... if RFC knew he was going to be the next number one after MH he should have been loaned out for the last 2 seasons, first season should have been at a club in league 2 second season at a club in league 1 gained all that experience playing full seasons at those clubs against tough teams and then he would have come back a far better keeper.. not doubting his natural ability but NH being a former keeper should have known he hasn't got the neccesary experience to be playing at this level as a number one.

and for the record we are taking shots on goal, if it wasn't for the suberb efforts of donnie and cardiffs keepers we may be better off than we are now.

do think fedders needs to work on saves at his near post though he has let in a couple that way.

Was not all our team bargain basement at one time. How many times in the past have we paid 2million or more for a player. These bargain basement comments make me laugh. All our Crown Jewels which we have sold off were Bargain basement at one time. This team is quite capable to do well, i think we should have targeted another Striker along side Rasialdo because it is and was quite obvious to us that goals would be a problem. I still believe if we can get the Hooddoo off our backs with a win on Saturday, we can go on from there and build. It is not going to be easy though, as most of our team do not want to tgake responsibilty in front of goal.

“I’m sure in the future there will be teams that will cop six or seven from us" Frankly I will settle for one more than the opposition! Doubt that is going to happen on a regular basis given our bargain-basement front line though.

Feds has kept us in a number of games this season, especially the Swansea game. The young lads have been thrown in at the deep end this season. They should have been brought through gradually last year to gain experience of the Championship instead of being loaned out to league 1 unfortunately this didn't happen due to last season set up. Getting on the back of the lads isn't helping and I agree with Feds that we shouldn't get on the back of the manager as he is doing the best he can the group that he has. IMO there is more to it than what is happening on the pitch, I have feeling theres something happen in the background of the club that we don't about.

Well Fedders it would help if you stopped messing up on a regular basis and flapping your hands around when trying to get infront of the ball. It not all your fault but to say that you cant tell anything till at least 10 games in is stupid. We have already played 8 of them and things dont look too good now do they Fedders????????!!!!!

Fedders you can play all the fancy, superb football you want but if we don't shoot then we are never going to score let alone win.. Only one of our goals this season has come from open play.. After 8 games that's dreadful!! The next 3 games will set the trend for our season.. We need at least 2 wins and to be honest I think that we'd be lucky just to get one draw!! Next stop League One..
