Coppell would consider replay

By Stephen Gillett
22/ 9/2008

Reading boss Steve Coppell may be prepared to offer Watford a replay - after Royals were gifted a goal at Vicarage Road on Saturday.

Referee Stuart Attwell dropped a clanger by awarding Royals a goal that went at least three yards wide of the target on the advice of linesman Nigel Bannister.

Although Reading went on to draw 2-2, Coppell today suggested that he would consider a replay in the interests of fair play.

Stay tuned for further updates throughout the day.

An unbelievable decision by the linesman. I appreciate that there will always be human error in making decisions but when I first heard about this I thought the ball was at least near the goal! I doubt we'll get a replay - the only action is likely to be that the linesman gets sacked.
