Bikey praises drive to kick out racism

By Stephen Gillett
1/ 7/2008

Andre Bikey has backed Reading’s commitment to stamping out racism in the English game.

Royals have been awarded the preliminary level of Kick It Out’s Racial Equality Standard and Bikey has backed the club’s efforts. The Cameroon international recently spoke out about his own experiences of racism during his time in Russia with Lokomotiv Moscow.

Talking to the BBC, Bikey said: ”English football has made great strides in combating discrimination. Other nations should follow its lead.”

Reserves move

Reading this week confirmed that reserve-team games will once again be held at Madejski Stadium.

Royals’ second-string turned out at Aldershot’s Recreation Ground last term, finishing second in the Barclays Premier Reserve League. But following the first team’s relegation from the Premier League, the reserves will line up in one of three sections in the Southern Division and play on afternoons during midweek.

Season tickets

Almost 12,000 fans have renewed their season-tickets for next season. Standard adult seats are still available for £445 in the Upper West, East and North stands. For details visit www.readingfc or call 08442 491871.
