Royals to join £2m Bodde hunt

Swansea are battling to keep hold of Reading target Ferrie Bodde.

The 26-year-old Dutch midfielder, who joined from ADO Den Haag for £50,000 a year ago, has been watched by Royals scouts on  several occasions this season.

Boss Steve Coppell admits he is “aware of the player”, but said he is unlikely to make a move for any new recruits until he sells.

He is due to meet director of football Nick Hammond today and will then have a board meeting with chairman John Madejski and chief executive Nigel Howe   tomorrow.

Bodde played a major part in Swansea’s League 1 championship title win, but is keen to leave the Liberty Stadium.

Derby County, who were also relegated from the Premier League have already had a £750,000 bid rejected as Swans manager Roberto Martinez rates him in the £2m bracket.

Chairman Huw Jenkins said: “Over the last few days, Ferrie submitted a transfer request which we turned down. We will try our best to try to make sure he stays with us.

“Ferrie signed a three-year contract when he joined last year and until that changes he will remain our player.

“The manager says he thinks Ferrie is worth £2m. If a player is intent on leaving and you get the right valuation, then we might have to look at it.

“But nobody has met our valuation on a player that we think can be playing in the top four of the Premier League.”
